Vancouver ranks 12th in CBRE report on North American tech talent

Every month, it seems there’s another report telling Canadians where their city ranks with its tech competitiveness.

Last month, the Swiss-based data-research firm StartupBlink put Toronto in 24th place internationally in “startup ecosystems”. Vancouver came 37th.

This week, the real-estate firm CBRE issued a report on the Top 50 markets for tech talent in North America.

CBRE concluded that Toronto ranked fourth, whereas Vancouver came in 12th place.

This was based on a comparison of real-estate and wage costs in the cities analyzed.

Coming in first place was the San Francisco Bay Area, followed by Washington, D.C., and Seattle.

“We expect that most tech-talent hubs and professions will thrive after the pandemic subsides, and many that facilitate remote work, ecommerce, social media and streaming services may have even greater growth opportunities accelerated by the COVID-19 disruption,” said Colin Yasukochi, executive director of CBRE’s Tech Insights Center, said in a company news release.

“Markets that have strong innovation infrastructure—leading universities and high concentrations of tech jobs—will lead the next growth cycle.”
