Squamish RCMP arrest a man with a rifle who was chasing a child
The Squamish RCMP have arrested a man who earlier in the day allegedly chased a child, while holding a rifle.
In a statement on Twitter, Squamish RCMP said man had been taken into custody on a weapons-related offence.
The drama began at 3:30 p.m. when the RCMP put out a release asking people in the area of London Drugs near Diamond Road to lock their doors and stay inside, and for no-one to take photos of police activity to post on social media.
According to a release on Twitter at 4:20 p.m., police said they had received a report of a male with a gun in the area of Diamond Road/Head Road. The male was described being in their 40s, with a slim build wearing dark jackets and pants. The man was reported to be carrying a rifle.
Cpl. Angela Kermer told the Squamish Chief at 6 p.m. that the man had not been arrested, but was in contact with police.
Kermer said the man was seen earlier in the afternoon chasing a boy and that the pair were related. The child is safe and there had been no injuries or shots fired.
