B.C. teacher loses licence over sexual relationship with former student
The report says the teacher made a “physical and romantic gesture” towards the student in late June during the school year and commenced a sexual relationship with the student within days of graduation.
The relationship was reported to the commissioner by a school district superintendent in November of 2019.
“The teacher’s conduct was a serious breach of his position of power and trust as a teacher … and he exploited the student-teacher relationship he had with the student by commencing the sexual and romantic relationship within days of graduation,” the commissioner said.
In a consent resolution agreement, the teacher agreed his conduct constituted professional misconduct and he accepted a 20-year teaching ban.
His teaching certificate was cancelled on Nov. 1, 2020, for non-payment of fees. He can not re-apply until 2040.
Neither the school nor the school district were identified in the commissioner’s report.
