YMCA Launches Online Initiatives To Encourage Fitness At Home

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is doing its part to help people stay in shape while at home.

With gyms closed across Ontario due to COVID-19, the local YMCA has launched multiple online initiatives to allow people to achieve their fitness goals, and for students to keep up a physical education curriculum.

YMCA Gym is an online platform educators in Grey Bruce can use to deliver virtual physical education programming to students alongside their e-learning. It features classes instructed by a certified fitness coach and content that meet YMCA Canada’s Health and Fitness programs and Canada’s physical activity guidelines.

“Whether it is through basketball or swimming lessons, volleyball or summer camp, the YMCA has an over 100 year tradition of innovative programs and activities that get young people active,” says YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce CEO Gayle Graham. “We see YMCA Gym Class as an extension of this type of innovation – a virtual gym class in a time of social distancing.”

A release from the charity explains the YMCA has made this resource available for schools to use for free.

This fitness initiative for students comes after the recent launch of YThrive Home by clubs nationwide, including the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce.

YThrive Home is a series of online fitness classes to allow people to work on their fitness from the safety and comfort of their homes.

It is a free online platform the features video workouts tailored for all levels and age groups, including adults, families, kids and seniors.
